ANZAC Day! /アンザックデーについて

Have you heard about ANZAC day?

ANZAC stands for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps and it is a memorial day of first World War. Australians recognise 25 April as a day of national remembrance and reflect on the many different meanings of war. Usually, my grandparents share breakfast with neighbours and remember this day. 

When I was little, was happy that I could eat ANZAC biscuit and for me, the meaning of ANZAC day was just for the biscuits. However, one film changed my mind. The film called "AUSTRALIA". It was a heart touching movie but I was so sad about Australians and Japanese were fighting. It is because my mother is Japanese and father is Australian and I love both countries. Additionally, the perspective of the war from Australian inspired me because I had an education in Japan.

There are different opinion in different positions. To not repeat tragedy we must listen to many kinds of voices and try to understand others!

皆さんは、アンザックデーについて聞いたことがあるでしょうか？

日本ではあまり、馴染みのない日ですが、ANZACとはAustralia and New Zealand Army Corpsの略称で、もともとは第一次世界大戦のガリポリの戦いで戦った兵士たちを追悼する記念日で、現在は、第二次世界大戦の戦没者も含めて追悼式がオーストリア各地で、今日4月25日に毎年行われています。（今年はコロナの影響でありませんが、、、）私の祖父母も例年であれば、近所の人と朝ご飯を一緒に食べて、戦争があったことを忘れないようにしています。

小さい頃は、美味しい”アンザックビスケットが食べれる日”という認識しかありませんでしたが、ある映画をみてその考えが変わりました。

その映画というのが”AUSTRALIA”という2008年に公開された映画で、Nicole Kidmanと Hugh Jackmanが主演の映画です。感動する映画だったのですが、第二次世界大戦を描いた映画で、”日本”が敵として描かれていました。母が日本人、父がオーストラリア人の私にとって日本人とオーストラリア人が戦っているシーンは複雑で、悲しくて涙が出ました。日本で歴史教育を受けた私にとって、オーストラリア側の目線で描かれているこの映画は新鮮であり、日本教育のカリキュラムでオーストラリアとの戦争について触れないことに疑問を感じました。（あまりにアメリカとの戦争の教育が多い気がします。）

立場が変われば見方が変わります。戦争を経験していない世代として、同じ過ちを繰り返さないためにも様々な立場の意見を聞いていきたいと思います！
